KrCERT/CC published a report 'Ransomware Trends & Statistics'.
o Major Ransomware
New ransomware discovered in the first quarter mainly constituted damage from 20 or so ransomware, including
Snake and Ako ransomware. In addition, a number of ransomware distribution files disguised as COVID-19 informationrelated documents were found and in some cases the ransomware itself changed its name into coronavirus.
As a major ransomware trend in the first quarter, local security company ESTsecurity cited the ‘use of Coronavirus
keywords’ by ransomware attackers and ‘continued damage by the existing ransomware Sodinokibi & Nemty.‘
o Incident Timeline
In the first quarter of 2020, multiple variants of existing ransomware—Sodinokibi, Nemty, and etc.—emerged and
attacks occurred across all targets, including foreign governments and private companies. Moreover, ransomware
incidents were found targeting various companies such as foreign exchange and overseas remittance companies and banking IT system support companies.
In addition, with the outbreak of COVID-19, a number of attempts to spread ransomware were made using coronavirus as keywords, thus requiring user attention
